Over the next couple of weeks the students will be given their log in information for Mathletics. Mathletics is an online interactive website that focuses on developing math skills in students. The site offers a variety of programs for teachers to assist with the delivery of the curriculum. Over the past year Mathletics has a couple of improvements which have already excited the students.
Students are free to access Mathletics at home. There are apps available for download if you are using a mobile device.
- Students love competing against other students using the Mathletics Live feature. It was always entertaining to see students try to compete against their classmates by pressing go at the same time. Over the past year Mathletics has updated this section and students can now select to compete against the world, class, school, or a computer. This is a welcome addition and the students are already loving it.
- When students log in they will see different areas listed on the right hand side of the column. Over the summer Mathletics has added a story problem section. This area provides students with a word problem which they have to read and solve. Last week I saw a few students try this and they were enjoying it. One teacher was excited to see that this feature has now been added.

Robotics
This week saw the start of the elective program at BIFS. This year I am leading the Minecraft elective and am assisting Ms. Eksteen with the Robotics club. Robtics is a great way to teach kids about engineering, coding, cooperation, and many other skills. I have not had the opportunity to work with robots before and I am eager to learn from Ms. Eksteen and the students in the elective. It will surely be a blast.
